AT4U (Cup Diameter 32.8mm / Bore 8.30mm)
This new mouthpiece designed by Aaron Tindall is designed for use in rotary valve CC tubas. It has a bowl-shaped Fred Geib-style cup. Fred Geib (1871-1950) played tuba in the New York Philharmonic for, amongst others, Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss. He designed mouthpieces for Gratz and C.G.Conn. His bowl-shaped mouthpiece design brings out the best in rotary valve tubas, giving a great ‘core’ to the sound. The throat is medium-sized, which helps accurate pitching. The rim is designed by Warren Deck and is one of the most comfortable on the market. It features just the right amount of width and bite to give the player a sense of comfort and stability. This mouthpiece produces a rich and even tone across all registers.
The shank of this mouthpiece has been very carefully engineered to fit all tubas with the standard ‘Euroshank’-type fitting. Original lead-pipes from Meinl-Weston and B & S were used in this process. The exact matching of mouthpiece and instrument leadpipe is vital to achieve the correct response from modern German tubas.
